2019: The World’s Biggest Year for Social Impact

Happy New Year! Welcome to the first blog post for With Social Enterprise. We are excited for the year ahead and believe that 2019 will be the biggest year for social impact, as the international social enterprise sector continues to grow.
There are so many social enterprises around the world making a positive impact to society and this platform will be dedicated to sharing their stories, so that they can reach even more people and scale up the good work that they do.
The voice behind the blog
I’m Kimberley, the founder of With Social Enterprise. I created With Social Enterprise as I truly believe social enterprise can change the world for the better and society needs this business model now more than ever.
My passion is to teach people what a social enterprise is, as I believe the more people learn about them, the more they will want to support the social enterprise sector.
2019 will be the world’s biggest year for social impact and here’s 3 reasons why:
- We can no longer ignore the Plastics crisis
The Plastic crisis will be explored in more detail within the blog section as the world’s spotlight is firmly on the devastating effects single-use plastics are having not only on the planet and our animals, but the toxicity exposed to the human race too.
The good news – the more this problem is exposed, the more people are willing to do something about it. Look out for future blog posts on social enterprises dedicated to help solve the plastics crisis.
2. The rise of Refugees
The previous two years have seen record amounts of displaced refugees coming into Europe and crossing the boarders in Latin America too.
Many refugees will have invaluable skills that they can put to use, but will be unable to enter the traditional employment system due to other barriers. Social Enterprises can be created to help refugees enter employment in a safe and sustainable way – creating huge positive social impact in the process.
3. The power of money
Consumers are now more ethically conscious than ever before. As consumers take more of an interest into the supply chains of their clothes and food, there will be a shift with how they are choosing to spend.
Most people are not aware of the destructive impact fast fashion has on the environment, or that they could be supporting a social cause when making a purchase for a beauty product, or buying a coffee.
Positive social impact will increase as consumers spend their money on supporting businesses that are actively making the world better.
2019 will be the year of social impact and will become the best year for the social enterprise sector.
